Joe Cole has mentioned that West Ham midfielder Declan Rice will have a lot of thinking to do about his future.
Rice has been outstanding this year, but has not allowed transfer talk to derail his Hammers performances this season.
Cole feels that Rice would hope to be a Champions League footballer next year, and is probably weighing up his options at this point .
Cole told BT Sport (19 February):
“Is he going to achieve that West Ham? It’s incredible. They have got a hell of an opportunity at the moment…His future will be undecided. That’s for sure.”
Both Arsenal and Tottenham, who have games in hand on West Ham, won. So, even though West Ham are sitting in a good position, their ‘games in hand’ advantage for their rivals, could end the Hammers chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
One Ace Up The Hammers’ Sleeve
Even though Rice has rejected two contract offers already, manager David Moyes seems unworried at this time.
Rice still has two years left on his contract. So, even if the Hammers miss out on Champions League qualification this year, the Hammers could still hold on to him and use his help to qualify in the season or two ahead.
Of course, the Hammers could choose to cash in on Rice now and buy another great player or two with the funds raised, but since Rice is a proven West Ham, and Premier League success, it may make more sense to keep him even if his contract is winding down.
